This Municipality was constituted during the year 1951 vide notification No. 54/LSG dated 03.01.1951. The total area of this Municipality is 21.93 Sq. Kms. Altogether 27 revenue villages are coming under this Municipality after excluding Kabitra village vide Housing & Urban Development Department Notification No. 14906 Dated 21.06.2011.
